The sleek carbon fiber and titanium, non worn out, Specialized Future Shock FSX Rock Shox suspension fork was not holding air in one side. I liked this damn thing, it’s perfect for street riding; light, compact, and short travel.
I went to start a tear down and investigate what could be the problem. Of course, I want to do the least amount of work possible, so I start with what I can do on the exterior. To avoid the teardown, overhaul, and rebuild. Under the boot, there is a internal snap ring retainer clip holding the interior guts inside.
First, let the air pressure out of the forks, then use snap ring pliers and remove that retaining ring.
Let air out of Future Shock FSX forks before removing internal clip ring stanchion suspension shocks rebuild avoidance demonstration.
Remove C clip retaining snap ring retainer, internal ring clip on stanchion rock shox specialized future shock guts.
Aha, a blown seal! Rock Shox air suspension rubber lip edge. Interior rock shox parts.
Left of stanchion tube, see lip of seal blown upward at tube seal. Rock Shox FSX internals. It is just burped out, looks repairable.
