With some friends and people I didn’t know, I had rented a island beach house for the summer. I wanted more than just the everyday beach frolic, drugs, and sex; so I started a project. Since I needed transportation on the car-free island, I got to work smuggling bike pieces across on the ferry.
Hey, I gotta pay homage to the classic, but I am smarter than a fanatic, I need multiple speeds. The coaster brake, seat, and bars do have advantages. I spoked up an internal geared 7 speed hub with the widest rim I could get – Araya RM-25.
Please forgive the radical angle of the saddle in some pictures. A muscular friend, slightly overweight, test riding this, hit a bump hard and slipped the seat down. And I didn’t happen to have a wrench on the day I had film in my camera.
That thin cable lock is all that is necessary on an island like this. Bike theft is usually by a tired or drunk walker just for convenience. It is rarely permanent; it is difficult to get bikes off or on to the island. The little cable prevents to most common stealing, plus no one carries a bolt cutter when they are wearing flip flops and swim trunks.
Much tire research was performed. Several designs were tested. Of course wide tire floatation is necessary. Beyond that, one of the biggest problems I discovered was the tendency for sand to be picked up on the side faces of the upward rotating knobbies. The added weight contributed to the drag and would slow the tire. The best drive tire design turns out to be one with more ramp-sided knobbies, sloped in the direction of power. The front tire needs to be smooth; the side ribs of the Moby Bite reduce drag and improve cornering. This bike rides well through medium-deep sand. Upright bottle cage for beer.

Hi Christine,
Welcome.
I use the Suffusion theme. It is free in the WP list. It is complex though, and not explained very well.
I also have a handful of widgets, like that slider of images at the top right.
Good luck, keep it up.
